Training Officer

Captain Patrick Stapleton proudly serves with the City of Huntington Fire Department in West Virginia, where he holds the position of Training Officer, a role he has fulfilled since August 2024. In this capacity, he oversees department-wide training initiatives that enhance operational readiness, improve safety, and support the professional development of all department personnel. His leadership ensures that Huntington’s firefighters remain prepared for the diverse challenges of emergency response.

Beyond his work with the fire department, Captain Stapleton is an Adjunct Instructor with the West Virginia University Fire Service Extension, where he teaches a range of fire service disciplines to firefighters and emergency personnel across the state.

Captain Stapleton’s academic credentials include:

  • A Master’s Degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Emergency Services Management, providing him with advanced skills in organizational leadership, policy development, and strategic planning.

  • A Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training (Sports Medicine), fostering a deep interest in firefighter wellness, injury prevention, and rehabilitation.

  • An Associate Degree in Occupational Development in Firefighting, reinforcing his technical and operational foundation in the fire service.

  • An Associate Degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant, enhancing his expertise in physical rehabilitation and long-term health for first responders.

He is a proud graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Managing Officer Program, a rigorous, multi-year development program focused on emerging leadership, risk reduction, and community-based fire service initiatives.

Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Captain Stapleton is currently enrolled in the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy, the pinnacle of leadership education for fire service professionals. His participation in both programs demonstrates his ongoing commitment to lifelong learning, progressive leadership, and the advancement of the fire service profession.
